Why Self-Care is ImportantOur ProgramsAdditional Offerings

Self-care includes all the things you do to take care of your well-being in four key dimensions – your emotional, physical, psychological, and spiritual health. At Spectrum Health Care, we offer low-cost access to trained staff in helping you achieve better health overall by addressing areas in your life that are regularly left without direction in the patient/clinician relationship.

Why Self-Care Is Important

Every aspect of our life impacts our overall health. Without self-care, we tend to only address health concerns when we get sick. Learning how to manage stress, eat right, get exercise, say no and allow yourself quiet “down time” are just a few ways to increase your overall health. We also must be willing to stop and actually the take time to identify areas in our physical and mental health that needs a medical opinion as to how to proceed in managing that part of our life as well.

Without self-care, it becomes increasingly more difficult to manage and control ongoing medical conditions. When conditions are treated medically, and in conjunction with a good self-care routine, more of our health outcomes are achieved.

Our Programs

In 2020, Spectrum implemented two new programs that assist in the self-care model of care. Feel free to reach out if you find other areas that we may consider as our services expand.

  • Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) – CDSMP is an evidence-based self-management education program for people with long-term, chronic health problems (including, but not limited to HIV, arthritis, diabetes, lung disease, and heart disease) that teaches skills useful for managing a variety of chronic diseases.
  • Primary Care Behavioral Health (PCBH) – Integrating care for mental, behavioral and psychosocial issues into a primary care setting has become increasingly important. Many patients come to primary care seeking relief for physical symptoms that are related to mental, behavioral and psychosocial problems.
