D-Day Remembrance Day
June 5, 2022 - June 6, 2022
|Recurring Event (See all)
An event every year that begins at 7:00 pm on day 5 of June, repeating indefinitely
On June 6 1944, known as D-Day, Allied troops stormed German defenses on the beaches of Normandy (France) to open the way to Germany from the West. The task was formidable. The Germans had turned the coastline into a continuous fortress of guns, pillboxes, razor wire, mines and beach obstacles. On this day in 1944, Supreme Allied Commander General Dwight D. Eisenhower gives the go-ahead for the largest amphibious military operation in history: Operation Overlord, the Allied invasion of northern France, commonly known as D-Day. #DDay #Normandy
